Biomechanics advice and Orthotic supports

Whilst many patients will reach optimal health via chiropractic and its core principles others will require Biomechanics advice and Orthotic supports to help them achieve the very same goal. If you are a chiropractic patient we will advise you if you need to book a consultation with our certified Biomechanics Specialist during your programme of care. If you are not a chiropractic patient please feel free to make a direct booking with Jonathan Rumbelow to gain his professional opinion on foot, knee, hip or lower back pain.

Jonathan has a Fitness and Nutrition Diploma, a Personal Trainers Diploma, is a Certified Biomechanics Specialist and a registered UKCC Sports Coach. He became interested in orthotics and biomechanics after suffering numerous injuries whilst competing in triathlons and duathlons at a very high level. He found that the combination of chiropractic care and the correct orthotics enabled him to compete without the risk of further injury or pain. He felt that these simple changes totally transformed his life.

Why combine Chiropractic with Biomechanics?

The feet are the foundation of the body and therefore influence the alignment of the pelvis and spine. Remember if the foundations on your house are sinking the walls will fall over! If you are suffering with constant injuries or discomfort it’s a sure sign that something isn’t right. Chiropractic works in harmony with Biomechanics as it accepts that the two areas are interrelated.

What happens during the Biomechanics Consultation?

The Biomechanics expert will ask you questions relating to your health condition and examine your feet. You will be required to stand and walk across a state of the art pressure plate. A digital image of the results will be immediately displayed and any abnormalities will be pointed out to you. A full diagnosis and plan for correction will be discussed. Please allow up to 1 hour for this appointment so that the fitting and ordering of orthotics can be included if necessary.

Do all Consultations lead to Orthotics?

Not always. Some people do have excessive pronation, difficulty with stability or pain but don’t necessarily require a fully customized orthotic. You may find that one of our simple ‘off the shelf’ insoles suffice. Specific exercises can also relieve symptoms and help to strengthen the muscles that help stability. With the right combination of treatment the body can improve significantly and will maintain good mechanical function and stability.

Can my child have a Biomechanics Consultation?

Absolutely. During the younger years children often experience discomfort which is usually due to phases of growth we therefore offer Biomechanics Consultations from 12 years and upwards. However, we realise there is always an exception to the rule so if you are concerned about the health of a younger child please do call us for further advice.

Will my child be prescribed Orthotics?

Children's bones and muscles are still developing so we would only prescribe an orthotic if necessary. A child’s orthotic would be a soft temporary version to allow for natural growth and we would recommend a review every 9-12 months which costs £40.

Fees:
Biomechanics Consultation £75 or £60 for children under 12 years of age
Subsequent Consultations are reduced to £60 (minimum of 9 months after initial consult)

You are also entitled to a free check up after 6 months of your initial consultation if you purchased insoles with us.

Insoles:
Semi Personalized £45
Fully Personalized £145

We can adjust insoles that have been purchased from us. We do not charge for this service unless materials are required to make the adjustments.
